Community Volunteer Challenge

champion OUR community

Last October, a monthly VOLUNTEER CHALLENGE was launched. The goal of our monthly initiative is to connect community members with opportunities to volunteer that are easy, meaningful, and impactful.

October became SOCKTOBER with members encouraged to collect socks in all sizes which would then be distributed to social service partners in the community. Thanks to local businesses and individuals, 536 pairs of socks were collected! These socks were given to Beaufort-Hyde Partnership for Children, Beaufort County Schools, and the senior citizen home food delivery programs to distribute to children and elderly in need.

In November, 287 holiday cards were signed and sent to active military personal and Veterans at the Kinston VA who cannot be with family during the holidays.

Then in December, in the spirit of Christmas, we encouraged citizens to look around their neighborhood to find opportunities where they could lend a helping hand. To be of some service to individuals and families, healthcare workers or public servants, and local service organizations.

Our community needs your help. Are you willing to roll up your sleeves and do something that will benefit people where you live?

Will you accept the challenge?

Hygiene supplies or assembled kits

A collection of hygiene supplies can be assembled into kits and given to local organizations for distribution. The local food pantries, shelters, community health workers, school district, health and human service providers are examples of how your kits can reach the people who need them most.

Suggested supplies include:

Toothbrush, toothpaste, a bar of soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shave gel, deodorant, comb, razor, lip balm, facecloth, bandages, hand sanitizer, tissues, nail clippers, hair ties, and feminine hygiene products (tampons and pads).  We suggest using travel sizes or small/regular size items.
